Sid Baker is alive, and River Cartwright has barely had time to absorb the news before somebody starts shooting. “Resurrection” brings Olivia Cooke back into the centre of Slow Horses without treating the reunion as a pause in the action. The old banter survives; the trust underneath it is less straightforward. Elsewhere, Catherine’s small rescue party and Lamb’s hunt for stolen records show an office learning to protect itself without the Park’s help.

Detailed plot
Reveal episode spoilers
River faces Sid after years of believing she was dead. Their reunion brings relief and anger together: he carried guilt for the shooting, while she survived in secret. Sid confirms that Taverner originally placed her in Slough House to watch him. What looks like a second chance at their friendship immediately reopens the problem of who was being honest with whom. Before they can settle anything, a car arrives outside and ends the conversation.
Jim and Jane have tracked Sid down. River and Sid flee through the countryside and take shelter with Anne, an older woman living nearby. Anne’s house briefly replaces the chase with an awkward domestic encounter, including River tackling an ancient tinned pie. The absurdity offers neither safety nor an explanation. Sid describes receiving a movement order sending her to Kazan. The Park dismissed it as a glitch; the arrival of armed pursuers made that reassurance worthless.
An online report gives the Russian connection substance. A woman in Kazan was shot twice in the head, supposedly during a robbery. Sid suspects somebody has used her identity. She wants to contact Taverner, while River distrusts the institution that hid her survival. Their disagreement is practical as well as personal: the person Sid considers a route back to protection is the person River thinks may explain why protection has disappeared. Coe collects them after their escape.
Catherine and Shirley bring Louisa out of her new workplace and go to Moira’s home. They find Moira unconscious with gas escaping, rescue her and get her away. The group then secures a gun. Returning to operational danger is uncomfortable for Louisa, but the attempt on Moira settles the immediate question of whether this is an office misunderstanding. Personal irritation has to yield to survival. Catherine keeps the group moving even as Moira struggles with the effects of the gas.
Lamb and Roddy locate Reece Nesmith, whose father Andy was killed after stealing paper records for Harkness and demanding more money. Reece supplies a missing connection between old-fashioned documents and the vanished electronic records. At the Park, Taverner faces anger over her interview and clashes with Flyte, whom she sends to Slough House. Lamb later confronts Taverner about the stolen files and the deaths. She gives him little reassurance. The two investigations now concern the same disappearing people, even without a shared explanation.
Sid insists on finding a public phone. River accompanies her into a bowling alley while Coe waits outside. Jim and Jane arrive close behind. The episode ends with the reunion still unresolved and another trap closing: Sid has returned to River’s life, but returning to the Service may be the more dangerous decision.
Turning points
Reveal turning points
Sid’s survival changes River’s understanding of the past, not simply the number of allies available to him. The Park allowed him to live with a false account of a colleague’s death. That gives every proposed call to headquarters an emotional charge. River’s objection cannot be dismissed as his usual impatience: he has just discovered that official certainty concealed a living person.
Anne’s ordinary hospitality is a sharp change of scale. The chase concerns international assassination, but the fugitives still need somewhere to sit, something to eat and a moment to think. Humour grows from that collision instead of interrupting it. Their surroundings make their urgent explanations sound stranger, which is part of the danger of asking civilians for help.
Moira’s rescue gives Catherine’s group its own momentum. They are no longer waiting for Lamb to deliver an answer. Survival depends on checking another person’s home, recognising what has happened and acting together. The women’s different temperaments remain visible, yet none of those differences cancels the need to get Moira out.
Taverner’s response to Flyte shows how easily discipline becomes retaliation inside the Park. A demotion is supposed to identify professional failure, but here it also removes an inconvenient voice. Against that background, Slough House starts to look less like a collection of broken agents than a place for people who have become troublesome to their superiors.
Book vs show
Reveal book and television spoilers
Joe Country (2019) sends the agents into a Welsh winter landscape. The television pursuit keeps River and Sid moving through a rural house, fields and a bowling alley instead. In Radio Times interviews, Christopher Chung and Adam Randall explain the decision to drop the snowbound expedition.
Sid’s return belongs to Slough House (2021). Putting her reunion with River inside the same series as the Harkness investigation brings together material that readers encounter across two numbered novels. The screen story can consequently make their difficult reconciliation part of an immediate shared escape.
The Joe Country ensemble introduces Lech Wicinski, a recruit trying to discover who destroyed his career. This pursuit pairs River with returning Sid and established colleague Coe. The television version changes the composition of the endangered group as well as the landscape around it.
Characters and actors
Cooke and Jack Lowden restore Sid and River’s abrasive rhythm, while Tom Brooke gives Coe a quieter kind of usefulness. Moira and Reece add sharply different demands to the rescue efforts; neither allows the team an uncomplicated day.
Linked locations
A rural house, fields, Anne’s home and a bowling alley shape River and Sid’s flight. The other search moves through Louisa’s workplace, Moira’s home and the Park. Their contrast is useful: danger reaches private rooms and professional buildings alike.
Trivia
Olivia Cooke told TheWrap that her Series 1 scenes were filmed in 2020, before Herron published Slough House. Sid’s eventual return was therefore not a settled promise when she took the role. She described rejoining the established production and reconnecting with Lowden as an easy reunion.
Questions and answers
Why is River angry with Sid?
He believed she had died and blamed himself for the shooting. Learning that she survived also means learning that the Park withheld the truth.
What connects Sid to Kazan?
A movement order names the Russian city, and a reported shooting there raises the possibility that her identity has been used by somebody else.
Is Moira dead?
No. Catherine, Shirley and Louisa find her unconscious after a staged gas leak and get her out alive.
