Rosalind Eleazar in Slow Horses

Rosalind Eleazar plays Louisa Guy, the field agent whose patience with Slough House is frequently shorter than the working day. She is part of the television ensemble from Series 1 onwards, appearing across the first six series. Louisa gives Eleazar opportunities to move between action, dry comedy and intensely private distress without treating those registers as different characters.

Her office scenes work through an economical contrast between listening and answering. Louisa often allows another agent to finish an absurd explanation before supplying the reaction that punctures it. With Jack Lowden’s River, Eleazar can make an exchange seem competitive even when the two agents are cooperating. With Gary Oldman’s Lamb, the irritation has a different weight: Louisa recognises his usefulness while resisting the terms on which he delivers it.

What she has said about Louisa

In her December 2024 interview with TheWrap, Eleazar described the pleasure of finding the individual dynamic of each pairing in the ensemble. She singled out Louisa and River’s bickering, and distinguished the agents’ professional ability from the difficult personalities that have landed them in Slough House. That distinction is a useful way into her performance: Louisa’s temper does not erase her skill.

The same interview shows how carefully Eleazar separates a trailer’s suggestion from the story eventually told. Asked about River kissing Louisa in the Series 5 preview, she warned that appearances could mislead. Rather than promise a conventional romance, she pointed towards a consequential choice for Louisa. The completed scene makes that caution part of the character’s developing dissatisfaction with her job.

Standout scenes – Series 2 and 5 spoilers

In Series 2, Episode 3, Min’s death transforms Louisa’s work into something painfully personal. Speaking to TheWrap in 2022, Eleazar explained that Louisa returns to the operation because she cannot face processing the loss. The short timescale matters: the investigation continues before she has been able to settle into grief. Her strained stillness gives those scenes pressure without requiring a speech about what she feels.

The funeral in Series 2, Episode 6 places that restraint beside Slough House’s brutal manner of remembering a colleague. Later, Series 5, Episode 1 turns the shared history with River into an argument about leaving. Eleazar lets the conversation become uncomfortable rather than smoothing it into reassurance. Affection and frustration occupy the scene together; neither cancels the other.

Career highlights

Eleazar’s screen credits include Violet in Harlots and Jacky Bast in Howards End, both period dramas that place their characters inside unequal social systems. Her agency also records Kate Riverty in Deep Water and Vivienne in Class of ’09. The spread of contemporary and period work gives a fuller picture than the assumption that Louisa represents the actor’s normal screen persona.

In Armando Iannucci’s The Personal History of David Copperfield, she plays Agnes. The film’s lively ensemble and shifts between sincerity and comedy offer a useful comparison with Slow Horses, although Agnes occupies a very different emotional position. In the 2025 Netflix thriller Missing You, Eleazar takes the central role of detective Kat Donovan. Netflix’s introduction establishes the investigation through the reappearance of Kat’s vanished former fiancé.

On stage, she played Yelena in Ian Rickson’s Uncle Vanya at the Harold Pinter Theatre. That performance won Equity’s 2020 Clarence Derwent Award, reported by WhatsOnStage. Further theatre credits include Angela in The Starry Messenger and Angustias in Rebecca Frecknall’s The House of Bernarda Alba at the National Theatre. These roles involve very different ways of negotiating desire, disappointment and the expectations of other people.

Where to watch next

Missing You (2025) is the clearest next choice for a viewer who wants Eleazar at the centre of a mystery. Kat has to carry the investigation and its emotional consequences together, whereas Louisa often contributes to an ensemble story from the side. The change in responsibility makes the comparison rewarding.

The Personal History of David Copperfield offers a warmer comic setting and a large cast built around Dickens’s characters. Howards End provides a period-drama alternative through Jacky Bast. The filmed Uncle Vanya preserves her Yelena opposite Toby Jones and Richard Armitage, and is particularly valuable for seeing how a sustained scene develops without the rapid changes of setting in a television thriller.
