The meeting beside the water
Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner can leave their offices without leaving their arguments behind. Apple TV’s official London guide identifies the Regent’s Canal bench where the two meet, placing the pin beside Cumberland Basin near Primrose Hill. This is an intimate filming stop: water, a narrow walking route and a place to sit, rather than a monumental landmark. Its appeal comes from recognising a seemingly ordinary corner in which two formidable people conduct business.
The canal conversation in “Bad Tradecraft” puts Lamb and Taverner outside the formal hierarchies of Slough House and the Park. The offices disappear, leaving the two characters to negotiate in the open. Apple’s account adds that spectators gathered on the bridge above during night filming. The official pin gives this visit a precise geographical basis; it also distinguishes the meeting spot from the very different canal frontage used at Granary Square in Series 4.
Finding the setting
Look for the bend in the canal near Cumberland Basin, with Prince Albert Road above and Primrose Hill to the north. The Canal & River Trust describes this corner through its ironwork bridge and distinctive floating Chinese restaurant. Those features help orient you when approaching from a bridge rather than directly along the towpath. Apple’s map point is at 51.53731, −0.152402; save it before you travel so you do not mistake another canalside bench for the filming location.
From the public path you can appreciate the waterline, bridge and relationship between the bench area and the street above. A short look in both directions shows why the spot offers privacy in a drama while remaining part of an everyday walking network. Boats can be homes or working premises. Keep your camera on the landscape and leave moorings, boarding planks and private decks alone. A view from the bridge is a sensible alternative when the towpath is crowded.
Walking from Camden Town
Camden Town · 18 min walk: leave the station towards Parkway, follow Parkway west, then continue along Prince Albert Road towards the canal and the northern edge of Regent’s Park. Follow Canal Side Walk and the public canal access near Cumberland Basin to Apple’s marked point. Allow about 1.2 kilometres from the station entrance, using pavement crossings rather than cutting across traffic. The estimate is for steady walking; stop at the bridge first to establish your position.
Camden Town Underground is not a step-free station. For a journey without station stairs, use a step-free interchange and a suitable bus or accessible taxi for the final approach, checking TfL’s planner for the day of travel. At the destination, a road-level view avoids committing to a narrow towpath descent. Canal access points can involve slopes, steps or uneven surfaces, so choose the route that suits your mobility rather than relying on the shortest line shown on a map.
Conditions and access
Access checked on 12 October 2026: this visit uses public canal paths and street viewpoints, with no attraction admission or filming tour required. Towpath works can temporarily interrupt a walk. The Canal & River Trust’s visitor information and local closure signs take priority over a planned circuit. The water’s edge has no continuous protective barrier, and low bridges, passing bicycles and puddles reduce the usable width. Wear shoes with grip and leave room for people travelling through.
Daylight is the best choice for recognising the location and checking the surface ahead. A dry weekday morning usually gives you more room than a busy weekend afternoon, while autumn light can make the canal particularly atmospheric. You do not need to imitate the night shoot to understand the setting. Good to know: the towpath is a shared route, so take photographs from a place where walkers and cyclists can pass without stepping towards the canal.
A break and onward plans
Primrose Hill Café provides a nearby refreshment option by the park’s playground and outdoor gym. The Royal Parks lists hot and cold drinks, snacks, a step-free entrance and accessible toilets. Its published seasonal hours are 8am–8pm in summer and 8am–4pm in winter, with Christmas Day closure; the café accepts card payments. Allow roughly ten minutes from the canal, choosing the lower park paths if you would rather avoid the climb to the hilltop.
For another Slow Horses waterfront setting, continue through Camden towards Granary Square and the Lighterman. Allow around an hour for that longer connection, with extra time for market crowds or a break. The route reaches a different filming landscape, where a large open square replaces this quieter meeting place. If you want a shorter outing, return to Camden Town after coffee and use the King’s Cross walking route on a separate day.
