Forthcoming collection

Watch the Quiet Snow is John Murray’s forthcoming collection of five shorter Slough House works, scheduled for 22 October 2026. On 12 October 2026, publication is still ahead. The publisher’s description brings together John Bachelor’s struggle to retain his job, Diana Taverner’s use of leverage and Jackson Lamb’s relationship with his Cold War past. This is a collected volume within Herron’s intelligence world, rather than another numbered Slough House novel.

The five confirmed contents

The List follows the trouble left behind when elderly operative Dieter Hess dies. His handler, John Bachelor, discovers that Hess maintained another bank account, raising the possibility that he was serving a second master. The investigation could undermine much more than Bachelor’s confidence in one retired spy: a career’s worth of secrets is at stake.

The Drop begins with Solomon Dortmund noticing an envelope exchange in a Marylebone café and reporting it to Bachelor. The report entangles a handler seeking stability, double agent Hannah Weiss and analyst Lech Wicinski. Diana Taverner’s willingness to sacrifice individuals to keep the Service functioning connects their predicament to headquarters.

The Catch returns to Bachelor’s insecure circumstances. He works part-time administering pensions and checking on retired spies, while occupying a dead man’s London flat. Representatives of Regent’s Park want him to locate Benny Manors, a former client with stolen secrets. Bachelor’s search is inseparable from his fear of losing the place where he lives.

The Last Dead Letter is also confirmed in the collection’s contents. It appeared in the earlier Dolphin Junction collection and in the US gathered Slough House novellas. It is one of the points of overlap between those books and Watch the Quiet Snow; the differently titled volumes share this previously published story.

Standing by the Wall is the Slough House Christmas story. Lamb gives Roddy Ho a photograph to alter, bringing Ho’s faith in his own importance into contact with his boss’s guarded attitude towards memory. The office’s seasonal atmosphere provides the setting for a smaller encounter between these two familiar figures.

Publication order

The List appeared in 2015, The Drop in 2018, The Catch in 2020 and Standing by the Wall in 2022. Their individual guides place them alongside the numbered novels by publication order. Watch the Quiet Snow gathers these shorter works alongside The Last Dead Letter in one UK collection.

Editions and audiobook

John Murray lists a hardback, ISBN 9781399838771, and an ebook for the forthcoming collection. The publisher-confirmed five-work contents are the useful distinction when comparing this edition with copies of the individual stories. The US collection uses The Marylebone Drop as its title for The Drop; these are alternate titles for the same work.
